GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS
In 1969, when he first started his business, Mr. Placide
Poulin manufactured fibreglass snowmobile parts. With a decline
in the market
for these vehicles in the 1970s, the Beauce native had to explore
new opportunities. In order to diversify his production, he began
to market bathroom accessories. This outlet allowed the company
to specialize in that sector. Mr. Poulin even revolutionized the
field by replacing traditional cast iron and steel with fibreglass
showers. Maax Inc. became a public corporation in 1987 when it was
registered with the Montreal Stock Exchange and was later listed
on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 1992.
Following a development strategy for the company based on growth
through innovation and new market development, as well as a series
of 15 carefully selected acquisitions, Maax Inc. became one of North
America’s largest bathroom, kitchen and spa products manufacturers.
One after the other, Marie-France, David and Catherine Poulin, as
well as Bruno Raby, joined the Maax Inc. team and significantly
contributed to this great entrepreneurial success story.
In June of 2004, a financial consortium acquired the Maax company.
At
the time, the company had over 3,800 employees in 23 plants with
sales totalling over $640 million dollars. The Poulin family is
continuing its business tradition by now pursuing other challenges. |
